چکیده

The main aim of this work was evaluate the displacements and strains and stresses in components of knee endoprosthesis using Finite Element Method. The semi-constrained knee endoprosthesis with two stem length variants instrumented into femur and tibia bones was chosen for the analysis. The first step was preparation of two full knee endoprostheses geometrical models which were developed on a basis of a real model. To carry out an analysis it was necessary to develop a femur and tibia bone model. Next a grid for finiteelement method calculations was generated for the geometrical models. Subsequently it was necessary to specify and set the edge conditions to reflect appropriately the phenomena taking place in the real system. The system was loaded with axial force in range 500-2500N. Calculations were realized for endoprosthesis components made of Co-Cr-Ni-Mo alloy, Ti-6Al-4V alloy and UHMWPE. On a basis of obtained result, the highest values of reduced stress in both types of endoprostheses were observed in the stem of femoral part. Stress in bone didn’t exceed its compression strength. The biomechanical analysis may form the basis for improving the geometry of analyzed endoprostheses and optimising a selection of the mechanical properties of the material used to manufacture them.

Finite Element Analysis of Different Hip Implant Designs along with Femur under Static Loading Conditions

Background: The hip joint is the largest joint after the knee, which gives stability to the whole human structure. The hip joint consists of a femoral head which articulates with the acetabulum. Due to age and wear between the joints, these joints need to be replaced with implants which can function just as a natural joint. Since the early 19th century, the hip joint arthroplasty has evolved, a...

Manual maximum closing torque in three implant abutment systems

Background and Aims: Diferences whithin shape and size of hand wrenches in diferent systems could affect the torque applied. Therefore, evaluation of wrenches has been emphasized. The aim of the present study was to compare the torque values of the long and short torque wrenches in different implant systems including ITI, Implantium and Nobel Biocare. Materials and Methods: In this experimenta...

Two-stage revision of implant-associated infections after total hip and knee arthroplasty

Septic loosening of total hip and knee endoprostheses gains an increasing proportion of revision arthroplasties. Operative revisions of infected endoprostheses are mentally and physically wearing for the patient, challenging for the surgeon and a significant economic burden for healthcare systems. In cases of early infection within the first three weeks after implantation a one-stage revision w...

Photoelastic Analysis of Fixed Partial Prosthesis Crown Height and Implant Length on Distribution of Stress in Two Dental Implant Systems

The aim of this study was to evaluate by photoelastic analysis stress distribution on short and long implants of two dental implant systems with 2-unit implant-supported fixed partial prostheses of 8 mm and 13 mm heights. Sixteen photoelastic models were divided into 4 groups: I: long implant (5 × 11 mm) (Neodent), II: long implant (5 × 11 mm) (Bicon), III: short implant (5 × 6 mm) (Neodent), a...

Tibial revision knee arthroplasty with metaphyseal sleeves: The effect of stems on implant fixation and bone flexibility

INTRODUCTION Revision total knee arthoplasty often requires modular implants to treat bone defects of varying severity. In some cases, it may not be clear which module size and implant combination (e.g. sleeve and stem) should be chosen for a specific defect. When balancing implant stability and osseointegration against stress-shielding, it is important to choose an appropriate implant combinat...
